Beginning Farm/Ranch Loan Program
Montana describes a tax-exempt bond program intended to help beginning farmers and ranchers acquire agricultural property. A participating financial institution evaluates credit, establishes collateral, and arranges the loan or contract terms; the department serves as the Montana Agriculture Loan Authority for the bond.
- No minimum loan amount is listed; applications may be submitted at any time.
- Listed uses include agricultural land, improvements, and depreciable agricultural property. The state page lists a $558,000 maximum for agricultural land and improvements, including no more than $125,000 for depreciable property and $62,500 for used property.
- Criteria listed by the state include age 18 or older, first-time producer status (defined on the state page), net worth no greater than $450,000, Montana residency when the bond is issued, and documented relevant training and experience. Other rules and documents apply.
This is a Montana program for qualifying beginning farmers and ranchers. It does not establish that a vineyard, rural property, or C 45 Group scenario qualifies.
